Two Minute Manager

Easy steps to manage your mutual funds in two minutes a day

Two Minute Manager outlines the steps for daily management of any mutual fund account or a self-directed 401k or IRA. These quick and easy steps take the difficulty and confusion out of the word "self-directed" by providing information and a system of steps to accomplish the task.

Behind each step lies the philosophy and strategy rules of the Mutual Fund Investing, Trading and Market Timing system. If you have not yet done so, it is helpful to use the left navigation bar to browse Philosophy; Mutual Fund Example Tables; Allocation Model Examples; Performance; Getting Started; and also our two in-depth reports and Full List of Funds for the Tactical Asset Allocation Model available through the right sidebar.

This section assumes you are a subscriber and have selected a suitable Investment Risk/Return Profile to guide your selections either from your past experience, or by completing the Investment Risk Profile available to subscribers through Members Home page.

Two Minute Manager also assumes you have chosen your Mutual Fund Family and Mutual Fund(s) for investment. If you have not yet made these choices, see Getting Started Choosing Funds for suggestions. Those subscribers with an existing account or plan, follow the steps below.

Becoming a Two Minute Manager

Check for Changes

Step 1. Subscribers check the Daily Scoreboard on the Subscriber's Home Page for an overview of today's changes, if any, in mutual funds, asset allocation models, and special timing strategies. See Example Scoreboard below and test how it works.
Step 2. If you see "no change" for any category, model, or timing strategy that pertains to you, you may leave and consider your day's work done.
Step 3. Further steps are indicated when:

  • you see in the "fund category" column, "entries" or "exits" in a fund category that pertains to you.
  • you see in the "model category" column, "re-allocate" in a multi-fund allocation model category that pertains to you.
  • you see in the "model category" column, "exchange" in a single fund model or timing strategy that pertains to you.

Find a New Fund

When exchanging from a single fund (including a money market fund) to another fund:

Step 1. When you sell a fund, you will be exchanging to another fund. Before selling, choose the new fund for your exchange.
Step 2. If you are using Rydex Funds, look for a qualifying fund in the Rydex Fund Table. Funds marked entry will be the best choices according to strategy into which to exchange.
Step 3. If you are not using Rydex Funds, go back to the Scoreboard and find categories showing "entries" that suit your Investor Risk Profile. Go to those fund tables. Individual funds marked entry will be the best choices according to strategy into which to exchange.
Step 4. You can also check these same category tables suiting your Investment Risk Profile for funds with status "in" and "action to take" buyhold
Step 5. Even though you may not be following a Model or Timing strategy, you can consult these tables to see what exchanges, if any, we might be making that day. They will be color coded
Step 6. If there is no qualifying fund choice into which to exchange, we choose a money market fund to enter while waiting for a new entry.
Step 7. Execute the transaction with your fund company or custodian.

Repeat These Steps Daily.

When Re-Allocating in a Rydex Multi-Fund Model; Rydex Single Fund Model; or the Dynamic Asset Allocation Model:

Step 1. Go to the Model page that pertains to you.
Step 2. Consult the table for the re-allocations suggested by strategy. The funds being exchanged will be color coded
Step 3. Procedures for re-allocating to alternative funds in a 401k are provided on the Tactical Asset Allocation Model page.
Step 4. The process of exchanging from one fund to another is the same whether the fund is a single fund or part of a multi-fund portfolio. See steps above under "When exchanging from a single fund".
Step 5. Execute the transaction(s) with your fund company or custodian.

Repeat These Steps Daily.

When Exchanging in a Timing Strategy

Step 1. If you are following a Rydex Bond/Juno Strategy or Gold Timing Strategy, go to the Strategy page that pertains to you.
Step 2. Consult the table for the exchange being triggered by the strategy. The funds involved will be color coded.
Step 3. The exchange will be from one of the funds to the other in the Bond Strategy; or in the Gold Fund Strategy, between the gold fund and a money market fund.
Step 4. Execute the transaction with your fund company or custodian.

Repeat These Steps Daily.
